STATE NSS CELL ITANAGAR

In Arunachal Pradesh National Service Scheme (NSS) had been started in the year 1972. The first NSS Unit was established at Jawahar Lal Nehru College, Pasighat with 100 Volunteers and Prof. A.C. Talukdar (Retd.) was appointed as First NSS Programme Officer i/c. Since then it is expanding and presently the total strength of the NSS Volunteers in the state is 13800 with 138 NSS Units in the University, Colleges, Polytechnics and Govt. Higher Secondary Schools.
The NSS Volunteers are rendering their valuable services for the members of the community in many ways as per the guidelines of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India. The motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underline/ on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteer shall strive for the well being of the society.
NSS provides an opportunity for ‘Holistic development of students with sound intellectual, physical, psychological, emotional and moral maturity that will pave the way for a truly democratic, secular and equitable social order’.
